  1. Hi this may sound like a dumb question, but why do the guides say that if your going to capture to divx dont convert to vcd or svcd? I know when I download movies they are compressed avis with divx, and when I encode them to vcd or svcd everything works out fine. Isn't a captured video(done by me) the same thing as a downloaded movie? Thanks for the help!

also using divX to capture instead of MJPEG due to disc space limitation. quality is good as far as i'm concern though I had an audio sync problem.
there is thread here started by xtassy2002 about capping using divX.

  3. Main reason not to encode with divx is when it comes to editing the file unless you can set your keyframes closer to each other. I don't have a fast system so it is not really an option but I am able to get 4 gig per hr with my captures and mjpeg since my tv quality is not that great. I tried using divx3 once to record something that I wasn't going to keep and the file size wasn't that much smaller than mjpeg and didn't look that much better.

  5. here's a straight answer.....

You shouldn't cap with mpeg4 and re-encode to mpeg1/2 because you lose definition. It's the same thing that happens when you take an audiocassette and make a copy of a copy.......you will always experience some signal loss through compress/de-compress/re-compress

  6. Here's my opinion. MJPEG is better all the way. I still dunno why people want to capture in DivX... And we've been down that road too many times already.

Heard That!!!! How about something new and even slightly more original than......DivX capture, CCE or TMPG.......

How many threads do we need going where the general feeling is "Does anyone know how to do a search"?

I hear ya!!! Watch it, tomorrow we'll get a "what the best capture card" and all the other usual ones... They have to learn to search, because I start not to bother helping people that won't help themselves. Unless the problem/situation is different... I think they've never heard of places like google either.
