  1. Has anyone been able to play a plain mpg file burned to a data DVD? I have an Apex-1100W that can play an ordinary mpg file if and only if it is on a CDR. I would be really cool to put a larger file on a DVD+R and play that. This would make it easy to just capture a huge mpg file and drop it on DVD+R for later play. As it stands now, you must do all kinds of authoring BS in order to play your file. Why is this the case for DVD+R and not for CDR?

    Thanks.

  3. That stinks. It does work well on a 650 or 700MB CDR, but not DVD+R. It must have something to do with the fs it creates on the DVD when you burn it. I was hoping there was a way to fool it into thinking the DVD+R was just a huge arss CDR. Wishful thinking i guess.

    I don't know much about this, but i tried mpeg on cd-r. you should try mpeg2 on dvd-+r(w).
    vcd=mpg
    svcd/dvd=mpg2
    ?????
    Somebody give it a try. I never try this before because, ofcourse, i don't have a dvd burner.
    There is always one who is always greater. Never give up.

  5. Even with a SVCD or VCD MPG2 file on the disc it still goes to DVD mode looking for the video_ts files. I think it may look to see if the disc is over 800 Megs and then go right into DVD mode instead of (S)VCD.

    It is possible with i.e. Cyberhome 302/402 and a few newer Yamakawa for sure.

  7. I just got a Mintek 1600 from Best Buy for $49 last night and to my delight it did this very thing as well as playing DVD-RW, and MP3's on DVD-R, RW. I'm about to post a review of this player on the Player forum, because I'm very impressed. I think you can do this with your Sampo 620 with a firmware upgrade.
