These latest BMWFilms.com video have a built-in "skin". The VFAPI plugin for QT only sees the skin, not the movie inside it.

Do I need QT6Pro to do this?

Someone suggested EO Video. Same problem. It can't get rid of the "skin". it can get the audio track, but no video.

Oh, and QT Pro said "can't export as this movie does not allow exports".

  4. Why don't you just download the .WMV files instead? And convert them with EO Video.

Because the WMV version is of much WORSE video quality. Look at both and see the difference for yourself.

But if no one else can convert the QT6 version, WMV version will have to do. I'm Using EOVideo now as a test, but I'm also trying Stoik Converter then TMPGEnc. Both are extremely slow so far.

Progress Report... EO Video is INCREDIBLY SLOW. I left it ALL NIGHT and it STILL has not converted a 9 minute WMV file to MPG. I decided to kill it. I can convert faster with Stoik Video Converter (to AVI) then encode the AVI with TMPGEnc.

  7. I'm working on the same thing, but my results are a bit more encouraging.

The WMV has a considerably higher bitrate than the QT file, 921 kbps for the WMV vs. 125 kbps for the QT. If you extract the WMV to a raw AVI, and then encode to MPEG2, the result looks fantastic.

My problem is extracting a reliable AVI. I've already extracted and encoded "Hostage" with great results. "Ticker" is presenting a bit of a problem because the raw AVI is almost EXACTLY twice (19:34 vs. 9:47) as long as the original WMV. I'm trying to encode with CCE as opposed to TMPEnc to experience the grand results that everyone says CCE can produce. The problem is I can't keep CCE running long enough to finish the job. CCE is one bitchy little encoder.

One thing I'm happy to see with the Season 2 BMW Films is that they've FINALLY used a DVD-compliant resolution, 720 x 300. No scaling required!

  8. I've been successful in converting the wmv file to mpeg1 with TMPGenc, takes about 15 minutes. Then I used Nero to create the VCD. I had the same problems trying to convert the mov to mpeg, the video just stayed on the opening screen.

Are there other ways to get a better picture converting the wmv file? I tried converting to mpeg2 and didn't notice a big difference.

  9. DigiToast has come to the rescue with this post.

This post saved me from losing most of my hair. Great work!

  10. I lost quite a bit of hair (and sleep) doing this Let's say it took me 18 straight hours in front of my computer (and lots of beer and bawls bottles) before I finally got it down... my desktop is a *complete* mess with loads of zip files and unzipped folders of all the programs I tried using. But.. all of my time has been well spent and I think it was worth the trouble =) Right now Adobe Premiere is running in the background converting my quicktime->dv export into an avi file that will be going into my mpeg encoder pretty soon.
