Can anyone please tell me which is the best free software to convert Mov files to Mpeg so that I can upload the clips from my camera onto a DVD. If so what settings should I keep it so as to get the best results when I convert.
Thanks.

For a quick and easy job I like NeroVisionExpress, if you can play the files on your PC it can load your files, let you edit out segments, create menus and burn to disc. And if your video is too large for a standard disc, you can use Nero Recode to make it fit. Only problem, it's not exactly free; mine was part of my burner bundle.
There are other similar programs that will do it, most are not free. Looking in the tools here, FAVC is about the only free one. The TMPGEnc plugin requires TMPGenc MPEG Encoder which is free for MPEG1 encoding, but you have to pay to get MPEG2. You could google for AVI2DVD 0.5b; that's an old free beta of a program that became paid for (with many improvements). It will only convert a series of file to DVD. If you have a CODEC to play the file it will convert it. The files have to be loaded all at once and will playback consecutively and no menus are created.Last edited by nic2k4; 8th Dec 2010 at 00:12.
