  1. I can play most of my AVI files. I a couple files that will not play no matter what codec I install. Here is the Technical Info....

The one file is encoded in DIV3 DivX 3 Low-Motion and I have a MPEG-4 Low-Motion installed. When I use Gspot to verify I have the codec installed, it says I do. Now I have looked for and installed DivX 311 yet it still installed a MPEG-4. Yet I still can't play the file. Please help!!!!!!!!

PS The file is perfect. It's not broken. I've tried all the fixes already.

  2. So what actually happens when you try to play it in WMP for instance. Does it appear to play (the timer advances) but no video appears and sound is silent by any chance. There is a chance you have got a fake avi, especially if your source is one of the P2P services like Kazaa.

  3. Well, no video appears, sound plays for like a second and then nothing. And the timer says the file is like 2 hours long when it's only about 30 minutes.

  4. Will it load or play in virtualdub? I find that sometimes avi's that WMP doesn't like are fine in virtualdub.

  5. I'm having the same problem with a AVI I downloaded today from usenet.
I've downloaded DivX AVI files before and they all run with Divx codec 4 or 5 in Win Med Player or with Divx Player 2.o alpha. But this latest AVI file causes WinMP to try downloading a codec which of course it cannot get. I have tried every other Divx player I know of - none of them will play it. I know I got the whole file OK, and the sound plays correctly. I will try VirtualDub but I think somebody just uploaded a flawed file. This is surprising because the Usenet posters usually know what they are doing.

  6. Check out what codec is required using GSPOT (available from doom9.org I believe)
