I haven't seen many things on this subject. What I am mainly interested in is creating SVCDs of home movies taken with a DV camera and using my Mac (OS X.2).

I can download the clips using iMovie, edit my movie, and convert to SVCD with MediaPipe, ffmpegX or MMT, no problem here.

However, I have seen nothing on the effect of enhancing the quality of my DV clips, often noisy due to poor lighting conditions. On the PC side, VirtualDup seems to offer a panoply of filters. I see nothing on the Mac side.

So I am looking for free Max/Unix (I am not afraid of the command line) tools in order to create a processing pipe for clips. Ideally, I would apply the pipe to the clips in the iMovie Library and create new cleaps readable in iMovie.

I throught that Mediapipe would be perfect for this if only it could read/write DV streams compatible with iMovie. Pipes such as the temporal denoiser are something I am looking for, I don't really know what else. I am thinking of a tool to crop movies (to 704x560 PAL) with motion compensation, for instance. Do you have other ideas? Maybe creating adequate iMovie effects?

I'd be thankful if anybody could point me to a set of tools to do this. I'm trying to look at the mjpegtools but fink has some trouble compiling libquicktime and I haven't had time to look into the subject yet.

Thanks,

Lga.
