  1. OK, I encoded it at 16:9 but my Apex player won't play it. Surely I can somehow change the flags to 4:3 without re-encoding? Help....
entirely TOO much time on my hands

  2. Search "Restream" on Google. This tool can change many MPEG-2 headers without re-encoding.

    easydvd,
the only time when 16:9 really works is if your final encode resolution is
720x480. I've had this issue w/ TMPG also.
Anything lower like 480x480 or 352x480 and the AD0-1500 will not display
your video on TV right (if you now what I mean)

I have the Apex AD0-1500, based on that, then. . .
Really... If you are encoding TV caps, really, just do 720x480 encodes
using max of 4500 bitrate. For a 1 hour cap or half hour ones, really,
just encode w/ max of 4500 bitrate. Don't worry about how much space
it will take. Cause remeber, you'll be editing out commercials, and gaining
more time/space in the long run anyways, and if anything, you'll end up
filling the CDR near or much lesser than CDR max space. But, that/this
all depends on th equality of the source, and size and the aspect ration
and so on, and how much movements in all the scenes and the level of
lighting and levels of colors, and if they jimmy the source or not, etc.
This usually works for this though. might not for you, but give it a shot,
and stop waisting your time tryng so hard to be standard. You'll be so much
happeir making one CDRs (of tv caps)

    TMPG:
    * use CQ max 4500 (all you'll ever need, as AD-1500 goes that high)
    * use 720x480 max capture (if you capture card doesn't drop ANY frames)
    * use Inverse32, and select Interlace
    * if source is 16:9, set it that way
    * encode to 16:9 output, if you have WS TV or not. Will/Should play fine
    .. on AD-1500.

That's about it - forget standards. Stop thinking it has to be standard and
confirm to such specs. If it works in your DVD player, than what are you
waisitng you time revising till it does. The consortium isn't gonna visit you
or I and validate your video specs. Now, if you are going to make encodes
that must play in other DVD players, than you have the issue to work with
    and standards to adher.

All the above was refereing to makeing 16:9 encodes, FROM a 16:9 source.

With the above, I can sometimes fit a one hour of Enterprise on one CDR.
using 16:9 since its that way (ok, letter box format, but whos actually
counting specs here) Sometimes, I have to lower the bitrate, but you can
do the same. If you can't fit 1 hour caps on CDRs I can't help ya their,
cause it could/can be a number of things, a number of things. I'm just
    nudging you.
