Not sure if this is a the right topic as the question is sort of on 2 things but will ask anyway.
Ive recently changed from making vcds to svcds when i make them for my own pc to play them they work great, but when i make them for a friend they do not play on his dvd player (Phillips 723) they come up all blockey and pixilated. But when he makes them himself using all the same programs (smart ripper, dvd2avi and tmpgenc) they seem to play great in his system.
Does anybody know why this happens?
Do different systems give different svcd/vcd results?
Could different writers have different results?
Or does he have a crappy dvd player.
Any help would be great as this is driving me mad.
Cheers.

What video bitrate are you using?
What Audio bitrate are you using?
What resolution are you using?
How long is the movie/programme?
How many CD's are you trying to fit it on?
As you can see, there are quite a few variables in the equation.
If you are encoding outside of the SVCD specs then they won't play on all SVCD capable machines.

Im using all the standard settings that come with the standard tmpgenc svcd template.

If your using the standard settings then I'm afraid I'm a bit stuck on this one. Have you tried using DVD2SVCD? It's really easy and gives excellent results every time.
Is your friend doing exactly the same as you? Is he making proper SVCD spec CD's?
Tell me exactly what your doing and I'll go through it myself to see what's going on. I can but try!
