  1. Hi all,

I downloaded an AVI movie and want to play it with media player (6.4).
The picture is fine, but there is no sound.
Media player tries to download an audio codec but can't find it.

How do I find out what compression was used for the audio?

Other movies and clips play fine.

    Thanx for your help, Gijs.

Load the video in Virtual Dub. Select File-->File Information.

  4. OK I looked with Virtualdub.
For audio it says: sampling 44kHz, 2 channel, 26-bit.
The compression is "unknown (tag 0161)"

Does that mean anything to you?

Download GSpot. It tells you what the codecs are even when you don't have them yet. Let's see if I can produce a link...

    There we go. :P
