  1. I need help.............

I am trying to copy either the time machine or Amelie.
I used dvd decrypter to rip the dvds, then ifoedit to strip the unwanted subtitles and audio tracks.
For the time machine, the movie is in the VTS_01_x files
So I used dv2avi to create a d2v file which I used with tmpgenc to reencode the movie at a lower bit rate to reduce the size
3 hours later, I used ifoedit, load the vts_01 ifo file and this time I select the"remux" funciton and chose the new generated m2v file for tmpgenc
    Ifoedit rebuilt the vts_01 files.
    so far everything seems ok
I also need to mention that each time I stripped out a vob file, I copied the missing files in the target directory.
First question: if I strip out an extra (such as trailer, etc..), once it is finished, do I have to move all the missing files in the target directory and then open the other ifo files I want to strip out from there or can I just strip out all the files one after the other and them when it is finished move all the missing files ?

Anyway, I have now a complete set of vob, ifo files which fit on a DVD-R.

something strange to notice is that when I used powerdvdto check if everything is file, I can not access any menu and that applied either to the original files which have been ripped with dvd decrypter or the one whiich have been stripped out.
so could dvd decryptor be faulty ?

    (I run windows XP professional)

Anyway when I open nero and ask to burn the files, nero complains with an error : "dvd files allocation failed"
If I check the message windows it says that possibly some vob files does not belong to this set of files.

I am desesperation since I have waste 4 DVDs so far.
I followed the same process I used to do previous and now it does not work anymore.
(in between I installed windows xp pro)
So I would appreciate if any body can help me
    Thanks

  2. I use a different method to reduce the movie vob files, but if i use Nero's wizard i get the same error. The way to get around it is to cancel nero wizard and select file - new dvd, then select UDF/ISO DVD, make sure data mode 1 is selected and joliet is off, give the movie a volume label, and burn at 1x - it works for me.

  3. emistral: Assuming that that the paragraph that started with "something strange..." meant that you were unable to test your DVD off of the hard disk before you went into Nero, then your problem is most likely somewhere in your ifoedit/reencode process. Where the problem is, however, I don't know. =(

Also, to answer your first question, you shouldn't have to manually do anything outside of ifoedit when you're stripping out files. From my experiences, it's always been an automated thing... Tell ifoedit what you don't want, give it a new target directory, select the vob-ids you need, let the thing run, and you end up with a new folder with everything you need minus the stripped items. From there, you get the vts sectors on the new video_ts file and you're set...

  4. Thanks Digitoast

When I meant so;ething strange, I tried to simulate a burning process with the files I had just ripped and Nero did not complain able dvd files allocation but I still don't have access to the menus when I run these files with powerdvd

I read in doom9.net that once you have strip a vob file, you need to move in teh target directory where the new stripped files are the missing files which are for instance the video_ts and also the vts_0x_0 which seems to be important
I tried running a dvd without these files and I have no access to the menus.

I ripped and backup Erin Brokovich using the same method (ripping/stripping and recompressing but this time with rempeg) and it worked fine
    So I don't know what's going on

I've seen alot of people complaining about this lately, what format are you burning you files in NERO with?

I use UDF/ISO and have never had a problem, but alot of people with your error are using the DVD-VIdeo format.
