Hi, I've backed up a few movies recently using DVD Decrypter as the titles were single layer and small enough to include everything(extras etc).
They play perfectly in the computer and on some set top players, but freeze three quarters of the way through the movie on most players! It plays perfect then stutters about for a while then freezes completely.
    Anyone got any ideas.

    Thanks.

  2. Hmm have you tried watching the movie from the harddrive? Mostly the stuttering issue crops up because of the media you are using. In my early backup days i used cheap bulk pak media and had allsorts of problems. I now pay around £3 to £4 for blank dvd-r's and have no problems at all but do try it from your harddrive first that way you can see if it is a media problem or the modified files.

Thanks for that. Watched them through on the HDD, they're fine. Watched the copied DVD on the PC, they're fine! As previously mentioned, it seems that certain set top players are ok but others(perhaps cheaper models) cannot play all the movie. I use a Grundig GDV200 and it plays perfect until about 20 to 30 mins before the end!?!?! I am using the bulk pak media you mention, maybe a change of media is called for?

  4. It seems funny that all these Pioneer burner owners are having problems with burned movies on standalone players. I too have had problems with movies breaking up and freezing at the end of the movie. Mine started happening after I "upgraded" my Pioneer firmware from 1.2 to 1.3
I fixed it by exclusively using CHEAP DVD-RW media ($6 Australian about $3.50 us.)

  5. falco, i dont think its much of a coincidence as 90% of ppl here must be using a pioneer drive.

It is down to the media, usually not manufactured particularly well towards the outside of the dvdr, ive had quite a few freezinf problems, always in the last 1/4 of the film

  6. Here is something so obvious I didn't realise it for a long time. I was doing quite a few movies on one type of DVDR - some would work fine some would skip particularly on long movies towards the end. Then I struck on an idea.
To ensure there are no Read/Write errors on your copied DVDR try reading it back onto your harddisk with DVDDecryptor. What I found was that the Datasafe GEn3 media I was using was working only about 50% of the time - the longer the movie the more chance of errors.
I changed to Traxdata - so far had only about 5% of failures - these all happened on the same day and thus either a faulty batch of discs or possibly overheating the burner from working it too hard.

  7. Just thought I'd add in my comment...

I had the same problem... DVD started breaking up towards the end... I'm using the "cheap" WhiteLabel Gen4 disks.. and a Pioneer writer.

anyway a quick switch to some other brands yielded much much better results.

I'll be spending a little more cash on my next batch.

I appreciate what you guys say about media, but surely if it were due to poorly manufactured disks then they wouldn't play in any set top player would they? These disks do play in some players.
