  1. Ok I have tried just about everything with this drive and am about to give up. I understand it has problems with a number of -R media but I can't even get good results on good +R media.

Here is an example .. We were soldiers burned via Nero 5.5.9.17 (newest with support of sony drive) on DVD-R generic media .. unreadable in anything .. ok thats understandable. Same burn on Memorex 2.4x DVD+R media. Only readable in the sony drive no tabletop players

But the same exact burn with the same software on the same media with the phillips 228 works fine in a number of players. What is going on with the Sony ?? I have yet to have a single burn that worked other then the included +RW disc ..

  2. I have been succesful with burning memorex dvd-r with nero 5.5.9.14. They played on my Apex 5131 a daewoo and of course my computer. It was not until version 5.5.9.17 that I got a succesfull burn from nero with the DVD+r. However another user pointed out that the record now software will burn iso/img. So I am now ripping with decrypton, then creating proper ifoedit94 and then creating and image. From here I have burned DVD+r dvd-r without any problems using the recordnow.

  3. Using the bundled Veritas RecordNow, I have successfully burned DVD Video compilations of home movies to DVD-R discs from

    Prodisc,
    TDK
    and
DVDPro (this brand is not recommended for this drive, but I had one from my brother).

My DVD player doesn't read DVD+RW, so I couldn't test the Sony DVD+RW disc, but all three brands of DVD-R I tried burned fine.

The discs play on my Apex, Toshiba and Xbox DVD players (and my PC
    DVD-ROM drives; no surprise there).

Where do you get the idea that Nero 5.5.9.17 would have Sony DRU500A support? It's still not listed in the supported writers list (www.ahead.de).
I bought my drive just on friday, but already noticed I can't write a overburn DAO SVCD with it & Nero.

  5. I burnt a memorex dvd+r and it worked on my Daewoo 5700 but momorex dvd-r shows stuttering play in the middle.
I believe we can't trust memorex media. Some guys reported success but some didn't with memorex media.

  6. I burned a copy of of my Escaflowne DVD this weekend using DVDDecrytors's ISO mode on a TDK DVD-R, worked great, plays fine on my PS2 and my AWIA 3 DVD Changer and in my DVD ROM drive.
