Hi, I hope this is in the right forum section.

I have got my head around converting my VHS tapes to DVD using a Sony RDR HXD 870.

The problem is that the DVD will only playback on the Sony recorder itself. Any other DVD player will not read it, neither will my XBOX. Even the PC says it's a blank disc.

Yet it plays on the recorder it was created with.

Am I doing something wrong or have Sony built something into the recorder to make this happen on purpose?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Are you recording to DVD-Video mode? Not any VR mode. And be sure to close / finalize the disc.

    Many, many thanks, Mr. B.

You've helped me out before, you're obviously a regular on here, respect is due.

Any other basic hints to improve my VHS conversions??

Never knew the owner of Videohelp was a fellow Swede.

    Fantastisk site grabben!

Regarding the issue. VR formated discs can be reda just fine by most new DVD burners for computers since they support the DVD-RAM format. My new PC with a LG multiformat burner inside of it can read my unfinalized DVD-RW(VR) discs recorded with a Samsung Recorder. On Burners that dont support VR formated discs the only way to perhaps get something out of the disc is by using ISO Buster.
    Sincerely Joakim Agren!

  6. As mentioned just finalize the disc. Should have instructions for that in your manual.

I have a sony to do vhs to dvd but it's not a very sharp picture. My Panasonics do a nice job.
