  1. if i was to crop a couple of lines of the top and bottom of a film to make the black bars a little smaller would i also have to crop some off the sides.
    Im talking about only taking about 3 - 5 lines off.

  3. If you want to maintain an accurate aspect ratio then you need to take off on the sides too. For example, if you crop 4 off of bottom, crop 2 on each side.

    If you are talking about TMPG, provided you choose *Full screen - keep aspect ratio* and the correct source aspect ratio, the cropping filter does not appear to alter in any way the final aspect ratio of the mpeg. You can verify this by choosing a small sample with the source range setting, and doing some drastic cropping! 8)
