  1. I have made 5 .vob's using DVD Decrypter.
Do I have to convert to AVI before encoding with TMPGE?
I did a quick test and TMPGE seems to accept the .vob's ok?
My last question is.......is there an easy way to append the 5 vob's during the encode process (can't seem to figure out a way in MPEG Tools or by using batch encode )??
    Thanks

    The versions i used are

    dvd2avi - (1.76+ LOLI.J)
    tmpgenc - (2.58.44.152)

A properly installed Tmpeg will open vob files, but only one. You could rip the movie as one large file, all rippers have this option. DV Tool could join all 5 vob's into one for Tmpeg. Some vob's conatain PTS pointers which trick Tmpeg into stop encodeing. I never frameserve my DVD rips,I always encode directly in Tmpeg.

    thanks for response...
the problem is,if my win98 Fat32 hd can only take 4gig....then assuming the average DVD is over 4 gig,I will be unable to do it "in a oner".
So....you are saying that if I was able to rip as 1 VOB,TMPGE would easily be able to encode directly?
If this is the case, does it take any longer than the DIVX to VCD encode process with TMPGE?

Yes,the 4GB limit will prevent you from doing most movies as one large file. I rarely encode from avi,but I don't think encodeing from the vob will take any longer.

Why do you do this? I use dvd2avi to frameserve, and have never had probs. Does doing it this way give you a better quality?
