Lets say a downloaded Divx AVI movie is good quality with a file size ranging in the 700 to 800's..
Is there any benifit in converting and burning a SVCD of it instead of just burning a VCD?

Would there be a notiable difference?

Or to rephrase the question... On average.. would it be worth burning a SVCD of a downloaded movie?? - or is SVCD only worth burning if your source is only directly from a dvd

(is my question clear? - How come I don't feel like I'm asking this right??)

    ..sigh..

Yes. SVCD has a higher resolution than VCD, so burning your movie in SVCD instead of VCD will produce a picture of better quality & clarity. The only downside to using SVCD is that you can only fit 35 - 60 minutes of video in comparison to VCD which usually holds 74 - 80 of video, depending on the size of your CD.

I used to make plenty of VCD's, because of the good amount of video it could hold, but after trying SVCD's out... I haven't made a VCD since!

DIVX is a highly destructive codec so the MPEG encoder which is out to destory more data, will have less data to work with.

SO yes, downloading SVCD's and VCD's can be pretty nice.

VCD is good for low action movies to, TV shows like Star Trek, law and Order, Are you being Served, Red Green will look nice as VCD's.
