I just got an ATI TV Wonder VE and recorded about 6 shows with the built in recording software. If I try to play them, they are just MP3's and only the audio plays. I'm a newbie (obvoiusly), so I wanna know how I need to view them or convert them so I can see them? I have VirtualDub with HuffYuv (I think I have it installed right) and tmpgenc to record stuff and convert them now. Any suggestions? I did do a search, but could not find anything about this problem. Sorry in advance if this is a report etc.

    Thanks,
    Grendel99

  3. I have the same card as you do and I'm VERY happy for the money I paid, you're off to an OK start there.

    1) Junk the ATI MMC software that came with it along with ALL the ATI drivers

2)Install the drivers from http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/ and when you install them, if you are using the onboard tuner be sure to choose your card AND tuner from the dropdowns on the installer.....the card you know, I think the tuner I picked was phillips.......it's printed on the side of the tuner card

    3) You have a couple of choices for capture software. The two that I use the most are iuVCR and VirtualDub. If I'm just looking for something quick and messy I use iuVCR because I can't seem to get it set above 320x240 and that's pretty low res for a decent capture. Although, the file sizes are very manageable. You will get MUCH better results from VirtualDub with the custom format option set at either 352x480 or even better at 480x480.

    4) If you have 50 gigs of HDD space, do your cap with HuffYUV (I don't) otherwise try the morgan MJPEG set at about 90.....I have really good results with that. DON"T try to cap directly to mpeg 1 or2, you will only get pi**ed off when you look at it.

    5) Frameserve the edited file from VirtualDub to either CCE or TMPG and encode to whatever mpeg you prefer.....CCE for mpeg2 and TMPG for mpeg1 seem to be good.

That should get you started. Also have a look around at the guide on this site concerning captures......you may also find the frameserving topics helpful.

If you have any specific questions.....feel free to e-mail me and I'll help if I can.

  5. MP3 is not a video format, it's only a audio format. If you want to record a video, then use mpeg-1 or mpeg-2.

People, read my freaking post. I recorded using the ATI software which is suppose to be MPEG-2, but I don't know what happened and now they are MP3's. HOW TO I CONVERT THEM OR VIEW THEM!?

I"M NOT ASKING HOW TO RECORD SHOWS AND I KNOW WHAT A FREAKING MP3 IS!!

  7. If you're using an older version of ATI MMC (ie before 7.7), it's probably recording your MPEG2 files with the .mp2 extension, which may be registered with an audio player (which will play only the mpeg1 layer2 audio).

Try renaming the .mp2 files to .mpg - it might be that simple.

  8. Also, if you don't have a MPEG-2 decoder, you may not be able to play MPEG-2 files (I believe the TVW doesn't come with its own decoder).

You may need WinDVD or PowerDVD in this case (or record using MPEG1 instead).

    Finally a reply worth reading

Changing to .mpg doesn't do anything I think I'm gonna get some other drivers for it and try that.

Anyone else have any ideas on how I can get these mp3 files to work?
