  1. Does anyone have this drive, along with Windows XP? I was wondering if you can help. The drive claims to have 8x read speed, but I only get 2x, no more, no less, no matter which program I use.

Anyone had this problem and overcome it?

    It is an 8x MAX.

That means it will go no higher than 8x.

Make sure u have DMA On and an ASPI layer and remember that it's an 8x max variable speed drive.

u may find this interesting to but ur drive also doesn't burn at the speed u specify all the time.

I didn't know burn speed varried until i found a regetry hack that lets you see the actual speed nero burns at.

Greg I'm refering to read speed, not write speed.

Yes I know it's 8x max, but it shouldn't just lock at 2x the whole time. I mean, it reads at EXACTLY 2x the whole time, making me think there is something up here.. I've got udma mode 2, ASPI layers, etc. Both DVD Decrypter and Smartripper rip at 2x.
