I just want to know if you have this setup, what steps in making a DVD MPEG2 file works best for you?

Since The DV500 and Premier makes a Pinnacle DV AVI file. Do you leave it in this format after editing, and then use TMPG, etc…?

Just want to learn more/better ways of doing it…

    Thanks

    Hello Mavrick,

I have the same setup as you, but always now use CCE 2.64 for encoding to MPEG (having formerly used TMPGEnc.).

I found the Pinnacle encoder was slow and gave rather poor quality if you are finally going to output to DVD. The later Pinnacle drivers for the DV500, version 4 series, have improved both the speed and the quality,
however, it still does not compare with the other two encoders.

I export the final edited film as a Pinnacle DV AVI, and have had no problems in importing into either of the other two encoders.

If you have recently bought your DV500 bundled with Premiere 6.0, you may be entitled to a low cost update to Premiere 6.5, which includes a version of the MainConcept encoder - this is a fast encoder with better quality than that of the Pinnacle.

    Regards, King Dick.

  3. Have the same set up, Premier 6 and DV500 card and like it.

I use other encoders to convert to MPEG-2, plugins like LSX 2.0 and CCE demo (if I have lots of money I will buy the real thing, the speed is awesome - close to real time).

Sometimes I frameserve using TMPEGEnc (the old freeware versions).

Then to DVD/SVCD using the Pioneer.
