I film wedding video's on digital tape, I have no problem with the authoring to dvd, but, customers are complaining that dvd's are jumping or freezing. I am using TraxData DVD-R disks 4.7 gb. Am I using the correct media. I know that there are more expensive media but is it just because they write at x2 as opposed to x1 or are they more compatable with stand alone players.
I use an Pioneer A04 and Spruceup to auther dvd's. Can anyone help and if disks are not good enough what should I use and best place to purchase. I am in England so tax and import duties are an issue.
Any help is much appreciated.

You are using TraxData media and are still in business? All you have to do is scan the various boards about all the laments about skipping, pixelations, etc from "crap" media. And this is from people who are NOT trying to make a living from this.
Since you are filming once-in-a-lifetime events, I would think that only the best media is worthy of these compilations. I would be using Pioneer, Mitsui or Apple media - exclusively!! Their price range is around $5 today (I've even seen Pioneers selling around $3.50). A disk's ability to burn at 2X is a very good indication of its quality (it means that it has passed a standards test).
Forget all the people who say "X brand, or Y brand media works for me with no problems... and they are only $0.89 each!" They won't have to suffer the consequences of media failures from a copied DVD.
You owe it to your customers (and to your livelyhood) to give them the best you can get. -
i agree and i also film and burn to dvd for profit. i use memorex dvd -r only! over 200 sold not one error! i get um at but.com for 4 bux a piece

I agree that for this type of application you should use the best blanks. However, it has been my experience that the Traxdata blanks are fine. I've probably used around 80 of 'em and have had no problems whatsoever up to now.

Thanks for the advice. Have in my hand a DVD-R from Princo. Anyone used these and what is the verdict on using them for Video. Have looked at disks marked suitable for Authoring and they come out at £8.00 to £17.00 each, very steep, TO STEEP

DVD's for AUTHORING is not what you need - in fact, you can't even record on them (unless you have the $2,000 recorder - they use different wavelength lasers). You need DVD for GENERAL use blanks.
Princos are crap - total crap. I said it once and I'll say it again - if you expect to have any success in your endeavour, I would use only the best media you can get. And this is all I'm going to say about this. -
I am in England and am going through the same type of problem with my media. I also have the pioneer A04 re-writer. I have tried the Datasafe generation three disc's which are about £1.00 each, but these have not played on enough standalong dvd players to make it the disc to use. It too has suffered from freezing pictures mainly towards the end of the movie. This had also been the case with FWS disc's l have recently used although they are better and listed as being more for the U.K still have shown areas where problems of playback is still an issue, also they fall into the price range of around £1.05 each. l am now going to try a Verbatim Disc which is expensive at £2.50 a disc and should l hope provide a perfect burn. If this disc plays no better then l'm open to any idea's on this. I'm hope that by using there dvd disc that l will find out that you only get quality results when you pay for it. I am burning the first one a bit later........''
