Does it just encode Avi's to Mpeg1 or Mpeg2 ? So if I bought it I would still capture my avi's through the same program I have now then encode those Avi's into Mpegs then use my editing program to add titles and fades and join them together ? So it just gives you the most hi-qualityt mpegs to work with?

  2. Yes TMPGEnc is first and foremost an mpeg encoder, it does not do capturing or fancy editing with transitions, fades etc. You can however also use it for editing (cutting and merging) mpegs

Yes, it does, but it's recommended to do all your editing while still at the AVI stage, and encode to mpeg as a final step for creating (S)VCD/DVD.

I did do a forum search but it was all advise. My videos are coming out pretty good all ready just a bit of video noise almost like movie grain and the contrast and colors lose about 20% on my home DVD's .My problem is Im using it for my home videos and I have a HD widescreen and is magnifies the video flaws. Do you think TMPGEnc would help me out? Thanks for your help guys.

  5. What are you using to encode at the moment then, or are you capturing direct to mpeg.

At first I was capturing straight to Mpeg2 with MyDVD and was unhappy but then I found this site and read about capturing to avi first then transcode to mpeg2. Im using the program called Shobiz which came with my computer dvd burner. So then I did a few movies capturing from avi to mpeg2. Quality is about 200% better just now instead of huge pixelation blocks I get faint hard to see blocks but more video noise like little grains and a loss of color and contrast. The videos are way better but just wanted to see if there was a way to fix the new prob. Would Pinnacle studio 8 be better or would TMPGEnc help this?

  7. TMPGEnc is one of the best mpeg encoders available. It is free for mpeg1 and you get a 30 day trial for mpeg2, give it a try and see what you think.
