Not sure where video card questions fit but hope this will do.
I have Geforce2 mx400 64 mb video card with TV out max resolution 800x600.
To view video from my PC to my TV in full screen and without a black border frame I use TVtool. The Geforce cards apparently compensate for TV overscan and cuts the picture to fit the tv screen but obviously by way too much.
TVtool overcomes this by forcing the card to stay at max res and fill the tv screen.
Now my problem:
I want to buy another video card. My interest is not gaming just a good TV out signal (TV-in would be nice but not essential).
The absolutes are the capability to send a TV-out resolution of 1024x768 and that the card be able to display video on the TV in real full screen without the need for a program like TVTOOL. A reasonable price would help. The video memory could be 64 or 128 mb its not critical.
I have looked at the GEFORCE4 MX440 ( at a good price) which claims to have full screen output using the TV-out but then my card claimed to do the same but does not have built in adjustments to allow it.
Any suggestions, I need your own experience not advertised specs. Please include a full model number and an approx price (Can or US).
Thanks

I have the ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500DV that is fast for gaming and does analog input/output as well as FireWire 1394 ports... It has just about everything you could want...

I have the ATI Wonder VE and you can have full screen when minimize the window, you can capture also from the reception or from any other device like video cam or VCR. Is very cheap.
Limits are in your mind........... -

Must- 1) 1024x768 TV-OUT (not the monitor screen resolution)
Must- 2) Tv screen full with no black box around the video.
Could you please confirm those 2 points.

Thanks Mavrick for responding.
Come on guys I know many of you use your TV-out.
This is a natural progression for captured or downloaded videos that aren't worth encoding to (s)vcd or DVD but are still worth keeping and watching on TV.
I'm a busy person, but have posted over 2 hundred times in less than 6 months trying to help others and this is only my second question at vcdhelp.
I don't trust advertisers and would appreciate your help in choosing the right card.
For those who wonder, This is not a bump but next time may be!There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway. -
If you can use the same video card why not just by a MPEG2 Encoder card beats the pants off any Video TV out card and the new Hollywood plus cards now not only play MPEG1/2 but Divx also and they are about $79. Mine is by Utobia and its progressive scan sure beats the hell out of my sons G Force 2 400 card and I only paid $59 for it, I need to upgrade to the newer version with the Divx AVI chip in it tough. Plus these cards are alot easier on computer resources than your Video TV out cards, specailly anything built by crappy Nvidia.

I will second the ati, I have ati allin wonder 7500 and now I have it hooked up to a 32" television.
The ati has the best output so far (I had a TNT tv out which was horrible).
I watch tv as well as play games end sometimes even browse the internet.
Although for browsing 800x600 with maximum contrast display options in windows is a must.
I use the 1024x768 for all games, dvd and TV.
I use the s-video out. The only problem so far is when watching vhs tapes the vertical sync in the tv output whose whacky with some tapes. A display reset from the control panel fixes it.
Another thing with ati tv tuner is that the blacks are not that black (you will notice it if you carefully compare a side by side monitor display or even switch to tv's own internal tuner.) I have not determined whether this problem is a generic display conversion problem (i.e due to the type of conversion done by the "rage" digital to analog converison inside the radeon or due to the ati's philip's tv tuner)..
hope this helps... -
by the way if you live in the us
compusa has a deal going till tomorrow for the
all-in-wonder radeon 8500 128 MB
for $150 after two mail-in-rebates.
That is an awfully good deal. I wish I had it when I bought my card. -
