I am still a newbie but this question deals with Vdub specifically. I have looked around this site and the Vdbu site and I am still confused. I run XP with an ABIT Siluro GF4 TI4200 card and a TI Firewire card. I wanted to use Vdub to capture my DV, but Vdub doesn't detect any device. The Vdub site mentioned something about Video for Windows drivers, and talked about capture card compatibility with Vdub. Can someone give me the specifics on this (like is it true, do I need additonal drivers, etc.)?

To the best of my knowledge, VirtualDub will only work on analog captures. If you really want to use V-Dub on your DV project, you need an analog capture card, not firewire and you have to install older Video for Windows (VFW) drivers. Then you should be able to capture your DV using the composite out on your camcorder.
Having said that, I have to tell you that I don't know whether VFW drivers can be made to work on XP. Hope this helps.THOSE WHO DO NOT LEARN FROM HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT

Just letting you know that WinXP has no problem using VfW drivers. I use a Winnov AV and get great results using WinXP.

Do you think it is worth getting the older VFW drivers for XP so I can use Vdub to capture avi files, or does Windows Movie Maker do an adequet to excellent job at capturing my DV and making avi files?
