I downloaded a movie and although I can play it ok I need to burn it on a vcd. I cannot convert it to mpeg 1 with TMPG as it does not support the avi file. Iv'e tried downloading a codec but no luck. Can anyone tell me what to do that is SIMPLE to understand. Thanks

Thanks, Iv'e just tried that with no luck. I get a message from TMPG saying " file can not be open, or unsupported" Do you think I'm missing a codec? or maybe my avi (Red Dragon Movie) is dodgy. How can I tell?

  4. this is what you do ...

be sure that you have installed the divx codecs(both divx 3.11, 4and 5) and also try with the nimo codec pack.if that doesnt work goto tmpegnc then follow the step above then but i think you might not have the nimo pack ....

  5. It might be XviD Avi - look in the properties to see if it is. If so - PM me and i will tell you how to encode it.

Thanks guys. I have found a terrific free program that converts avi to mpeg (it takes a while, but is good). look at www.jhepple.com and check out some of the stuff there. My RED DRAGON movie converted to PAL at 352x288 25fps from 15fps and it plays very good on my stand alone dvd.
I dicn't need to use other codecs or do anything complex.
