I'm trouble converting a avi-mpeg and I'm told that I need to 'de-multiplex' the mpeg after I have made it in TMPGenc, before I burn it using Nero?? Why? What is it and what does it do?? I thought nero just burnt the final mpeg??
Cheers

It means separating the audio from the video, leaving you with two files. One pure audio, and the other pure video.
Hello. -
I'm confused, i thought you just encoded the avi with TMPenc and then burned it?? I'm now being told you need to 'de-multiplex' it then 'remultiplex' -what's all that about??
cheers

Okay it works like this.
You take your avi you want to make a VCD with. Use Virtual Dub to remove the wave audio from it.
Take the original video and new audio into TMPGEnc. Remultiplex them together using your VCD template to make a video file that contains the video, audio, and the template settings to make a VCD.
Use Nero to make this file into your VCD.Hello. -
Def:
mepg file = .mpg files with one or more audio and video streams along with possibly other non-video information. A mpeg file is made up of "packets" of information that represent audio, video or other information. They are "packed" ina way to facilitate playback.
audio stream = .mp2, .ac3, or other mpeg audio file containing ONE STREAM
video stream = .mpg ( confusing I know ), .m1v, m2v, mpv or other mpeg video sfile containing one stream.
A mpeg file ( .mpg ) is really just a wrapper similar to .avi or .mov. A mpeg A/V file contains one or more audio and video "stream" that have been multiplexed together either by a standalone encoder ( tmpgenc ) or a multiplexor.
De-multiplexing is the action of seperating these audio, video streams out of a mpeg file.
Why do you sometimes need to de-then re-multiplex a .mpg?
Sometimes the mpeg file is not "packed" correctly for the type of disc you are trying to create. Sometimes more non-A/V information needs to be added to the file to support the file you are trying to create. In the case of VCD's they need to be "packed" in a very specific manner. SVCD's need user scan offsets added to the .mpg file to be recognized as spec. -

Could u make a drawing of this? And yes...we all wear wooden shoes here in Holland... -
Thanks for the info guys!
This is why I ask - I tried to convert a divx by using the guide on this site and stripped out the audio then 're-multiplexed' them together and encoded with TMPGenc. This did not work-wouldn't play on my dvd player whilst all other svcd's do. I asked on here to see if anyone could solve it-no one could, so I went in search of the knowledge elsewhere.
I have now found 2 websites that have told me to virtualdub (demux) then tmpgenc (remux) then tmpgenc (demux again) then bbmpeg (remux again). Now I'm not saying the guide on here is wrong, it just doesn't work when I follow it, and no one knows the answer. I'm going to try this demux/mux/demux/mux stupid routine and see if that works. Gotta be worth a shot, they think it works

p.s
They've also recommended 'CCE' to do the encoding not TMEGenc? -
CCE is in some things better dan TMPGenc...but u will still need TMPGenc to do alot of work before CCE will work..
Remember that U gonna start a very old discussion now...
Just start with TMPGenc and when U get the hang of it.....experiment with CCE...then U can find out for yourselve what works for UAnd yes...we all wear wooden shoes here in Holland...
