  1. I have been experimenting with making VCDs and SVCDs for about a week using the free tools and tutorials on this site (an EXCELLENT resource). At first I used my own avi files of animations, but there was one problem I had all of the time. I use the PAL format.

On playback, the video seemed to 'jerk' forward every second or two seconds.

To find what the problem was I used one of my DVDs and ripped it, but I had the same problem. The tools I use are:

    1. SmartRipper to rip the DVD
    2. TMPGEnc to encode the files
    3. VCDEasy to make the CD

After a bit of investigation, I discovered the problem was with the way I encoded files with TMPGEnc. After a lot of adjustment (and a few CDs later) I discovered the solution.

All I had to do was change the Field Order (SETTINGS > ADVANCED) to 'Top Field First (field A)', and now I have perfect motion in my VCDs and SVCDs (and better picture quality).

A simple thing that sorted out a very frustrating problem!. Hope this helps some newbies! (just like me).

  4. If you are using DVD2AVI to create the .d2v file, make sure that Forced Film is NOT on if it's 29.97. I had mine set to on, and I happened to rip a DVD that was not 23.97. I had jerky video.
