I have this AVI file (with xVid compression), and the audo lags about 2.5 seconds. I want a freeware tool to fix the audio-video lag. What software should I use to sync them?

I searched before asking this, but I didn't find that one. Than you!

Anyways, I figured what the appropriate value for Interleaving is, using VirtualDob. But my problem is I there is no option to save as Direct Stream Copy. There is a Save As AVI option but it says the final AVI will be 10GB in size (the original is less than 1GB). Am I missing something? Or is this normal, and I should recompress the AVI after it is saved (then how?)?

Virtualdub | Video -> Direct Stream Copy | File -> Save AVI As

You might also need to check that Audio -> Direct Stream Copy is also set.

Perfect! This one is solved, but now I have encountered a new problem: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic345981.html#1812447

    Please advise there.

  5. I tried using it with Virtualdub. No matter how I try the Virtualdub keeps complaining about my Video not being a compatible Video for windows type!

Now what can one -- with no technical knowledge -- do to remove audio lag?

Start with a mediainfo tree view of the file. Post it here so we can see what you have to work with.

You can use AVI Demux for this as well. You will get more specific answers if you tell us more about the file

Do you have the Xvid codec installed? You will probably also get a warning about variable bitrate audio, but you can generally ignore that.

  9. Thanks, redwudz.

I downloaded and installed it from the link you gave.

But I don't know how to go about it! I can't even configure the Xvid codec! I don't understand it.

If you need to configure it in VD, go to 'Video>Compression>Xvid>Configure' and you will see the settings. If you click on the 'Target bitrate' it will change to 'Target quantizer'. Select '2' and you will get about the same quality as the original file. But you have little control of size. '3' will give you a smaller file at a bit less quality.

Or if you want a set size, use 'Target bitrate' and select the desired size. More accuracy for size will be with a two pass encode. Select 'Twopass- 1st pass' and it will generate a file that will tell the encoder how to distribute the bitrate. The 'Twopass - 2nd pass' you select for the second pass that will do the actual encoding. I use the 'unrestricted' 'Profile @ Level' most times.

In general, you don't need to make any other adjustments, leave them at default unless you want to visit the Xvid site for more info on using them.
