Father in law bought a Dazzle DVC80 USB capture device to archive SVHS home movies to VCD. We are having problems at every turn trying to capture with this thing. I brought it home to put more time into it and am now trying to capture from VHS here in an effort to figure this out. Tried using VirtualDub, but I can't change the resolution or set the audio capture to be taken from Dazzle DVC80. It will only take it from the sound card which does not have left and right audio in, only audio in.
I have tried to follow the guides in vcdhelp, but I can't configure things the way the guides tell me to, mostly because of 'unsupported' type errors.
Any help about capturing with this device would be greatly appreciated. My father in law basically wants to keep the SVHS quality when capturing. He has a very fast machine, running XP Pro, and hard drive space is not an issue.
Thankyou in advance for any and all help!

Something else to add here also..........if it will work better, we can go get a DVD burner. This may occur in any instance as there are a lot of tapes to archive.

The DVC 80 is just not going to give you the ultimate quality that i believe you are looking for....I 2 have a DVC 80, and since it is a USB 1.1 connection it just isn't fast enough to transfer high quality video without some quality loss. However, I have found that using Ulead Visual Studio 6.0 w/the DVC80 seems to work ok! I can produce pretty good looking VCD's, but still not the Ultra Quality that i am looking for. As for DVC 80 w/VirtualDub.........Forget about it! No matter what i try, i just plain can't capture audio, mainly because selecting DVC 80 as my sound recording device doesn't work, and the DVC80 gives you no Line Input option to your system sound card. I actually purchased a DVC 150 which is a USB 2.0 capture device, and returned 3 days later!!! I have decided to stay away from the Dazzle products, and go with an onboard capture card. If you want ultimate quality you may want to do the same.

Ohhhh yea.....you can download the demo version of
Ulead Visual Studio 6 at:

Thanks for that.
Maybe we should get a decent capture card then.
My father in law bought the Dazzle on a whim and it wasn't really researched, hence my trying to make it work!
Guess I'll start to look through other threads to find out what would be the best capture card for our needs. -
I just ordered the VisionTek XTASY Everything from Ubid. The card is one of the highest rated cards by the users of this site....
The glory is that you can pick this card up on ubid for under $100.00!
I will post another message under this topic to let you know what i think of the card after i get it and test it out!

Think we may be going with the Canopus ADVC-100, and get a DVD burner also. Dunno for sure yet though.
Thanks for your input..........it's appreciated.
