  1. My first post so i apologize if i'm in the wrong forum.

    My dvd drive on my pc does not recognize the dvd when i put it in the drive. It recognize VCD and a a regular CD, but not DVD! It acts like the DVD is not even there.

    I'm new to DVDs so i don't know much. Any ideas or solutions?

    Have you tried multiple DVD's. Mabye it just does not like that one?

  3. Oh,sorry if i didn't provide enough info. Yes, I've tried many DVDs. I doubt that it would be a problem with the DVD.

    I am also using winxp. I hear some people say I need encoding by using power dvd or windvd and i tried, but doesn't work. I can't say it's an encoding problem becuz my drive can't even read the dvd, but only read vcd and regular cds.

    It's possible that the laser that's used for DVD's has gone kaput in your DVD-ROM drive. Since CD and DVD use two seperate pickup lasers it's possible that it has gone bad.

    Did DVD's ever work? I would start by calling the manufacturer.
