have several avi files that play fine with win media player and ati media player but when I go to TMPGE to convert program says "can not open or unsupported". I have gone over the how to's various times, downloaded Divx codecs and also kstudio codecs still no help. I would like to VCD these avi files, anyone have any suggestions? thanks for the future help, great forums.

Hi, I've had that problem too and I know how frustrating it can get. If it's for VDub's frameserver, here's one or two solutions and tips which I got from this forum and that worked for me:
1)If you're using Win Media Player v7, don't use it when you have booted up your computer(apparently it affects TmpEnc). I'm using v6.x so I'm ok.
2)I know the examples and tips on this site tell you to use the filename "video.vdr.avi". DON'T add the extension .avi at the back. Just use .vdr for the frameserver file.(I used exactly the name "xxx.vdr"
Just follow the rest of the instructions on this website and in the how tos (like increasing the VFAPI priority etc.)and it should be ok. Hope this helps.
