  1. Ok, I've encoded my movie to mpeg1 using TMPGenc and I now want to fit it on one CD (because its awfully close to the right size!). Can anyone tell me whether I can re-encode my TMPGenc mpeg1 (at say..,900Mb - encoded at 1150kbps - CBR) to an mpeg1 (at 800Mb encoded at approx 1080kbps CBR/VBR?)
So far all I get is a slightly larger file if I reload it into TMPGEnc and alter the bitrate etc... it seems to ignore the new settings? (seems to...)

The reason I ask, is that I ditched the VOB's and all I have left is the mpeg

Maybe there's a completely different method?

    Thanx

P.S. If you can recommend any RECENT TMPGenc templates (for 2.58 + PAL) lemme know! - I already have seffy's circa 2001

  2. Yes you can re-encode mpeg1 with lower bitrate to get smaller filesize, but you will lose some video quality. And if you change any setting in video and/or audio then you make XVCD instead of VCD.

I have two suggestion for you.
    1. Try to cut the beginning or the end if you can to make it smaller.

    2. Make sure your player can play XVCD type.
2.1 re-encode with lower video bitrate like you mentioned or
2.2 Lower audio bitrate by demux video and audio in TMPGEnc, then re-encode only audio to 128kbit after that mux video and new audio file. Make sure when you multiplex you set to MPEG-1 VideoCD Non-stnadard. This way you will save time and preserve video quality

NOTE if you should to re-encode the whole thing I'd suggest you use 2-pass VBR with avg=1050 or lower, max=1150, min=0.

You have been very helpful, and I will repost if succesful for anyone else interested...

  4. If you attempt to re-encode your file with XVCD setting (any change in bitrate). You have to set System --> stream type to MPEG1-VideoCD (non standard) or else you will end up with same filesize as before.
