I've been succesful [so far] in converting from .rm > .avi > mpeg and then burn to VCD. Converted about 17 - 20 disks with pretty good quality.

Just started on a new season and of slightly worse quality. Start of OK .rm > .avi ... but when I get to burning to mpeg (via tmpenc) the sound becomes horrible. The .avi sound is fine (just as good as the season before), but there is now a terrible tinny, metalic, high-pitched edge to the mpeg. I've tried using the noise reduction option but I made no difference... Any help ?

I converted from .rm to .avi with Tinra using low motion

The "Noise Reduction" option didn't help because it filters the video for noise, not the audio.

Some people report that the TMPGEnc audio algortihm produces a noticable metallic background noise. I have never noticed it being as bad as you say though....

Try to first save the audio out to an uncompressed WAV file (you can use VirtualDub for this). This will at least take the avi compression out of the equation. If the problem persists then try using an external sound encoder such as those listed in the Tools section of this site.

Oh.. you do not need to encode to avi (DivX??) before encoding. For best results you should try going from RM direct to MPEG.

    I can do that ?

All the info I found told me I had to use Tinra to extract to avi and then to burn to VCD (I'm using Nero) is was quicker to use TMPEnc.

I'll have a go with Audio Dub and see how I get on ... I may be back
