I have a question that may have been answered already but only on certain aspects

I am trying to burn subtitles on a dvd

I start with a vob and use the "decode with mplayer" option, but here i have a choice: either i click on VOB subtitles and validate the "burn" option and in this case i get subtitles burned in the picture with a cottage cheese like texture effect (ugly really!!)
or if i use the import .srt function i have perfect subs in preview but nothing burnt in the end.

I even tied to use the two 2005 binaries instead of the last ones, with non difference in the result

Did i do something wrong ?

    Thanks for any help

The "VOB subtitles" checkbox is for taking the subtitle stream from the source file VOB. It should look just like the original. For strange visual results ("cottage cheese"), please provide a screenshot.

If you import subtitles from an SRT file, and not burn them onto the video, the subs should be selectable (off/on), but turned off in the default state. Use the subtitle feature of your DVD player to activate them.

To add to my last post
this happens when you select VOB subtitles AND the burn option

Have a look at the attached preview

The "cottage cheese" issue seems to be related to the IFO color palette. The color palette for subtitle streams in VOB files is defined in VTS_01_0.IFO in the DVD's VIDEO_TS folder (for VTS 01).
For this very purpose, ffmpegX's Filters tab has a field to load the IFO palette by selecting the matching .IFO file.

DVD subtitles have just four color values, but these four can be mapped to "any" color by use the the color palette. If the original color palette is not used, then ffmpegX will use a default palette. That may be totally different than the original author of the DVD intended. In result, you will see weird things happen to the subtitles.

    Do not check "VOB Subtitles",
    load the .srt file,
and "Decode with mplayer" (to burn the subs onto the video).
