  1. What is the fastest avi 2 mpeg converter or at least one that lets you stop encoding and resume at a later time.

fastest ive tested in Main Concept (and still has quality) there are faster but they rather all lump in to the crap catagory.

CCE is nearly as fast -- its pretty close , depends on your system and settings..

  3. so how fast is it exactly whenever i use tmpegenc it takes hours to convert files

  4. It all depends on how big your avi files are. If the file real play time is 1 hour, reencoding will also take some time.

  5. lets say for example the file is 40 minutes and about 140 mb (divx avi)

twice as fast - depending on our settings ..

3pass going to take a bit of time on cce ..

both main concept and cce can do real time (or better) on a 1.6 ghz+ p4 if there is no proccessing and with CQ or CBR ..

    slower on VBR

I wake up and my MPEG-2 is ready to be burned...
hey bhasman, I feel ya on the part where you say that you're not the only one that uses the pc. My wife uses my pc so you're not alone, but we both go to sleep at the same time.

    I do the same thing

Just let the computer do the encoding over night while you are sleeping, and when you are up in the morning the work should be done and the best program that I've had for converting is TMPGEnc
