I just saw this cool Mintek 1710 at Best Buy for $330 (including $50 rebate). It's a portable with a 7" screen. I was thinking it would be great for playing DVD-Rs with mp3 files in the car. I tried a DVD-R with mp3 files on it and it seemed to come close to working. It could actually list the directories and the files (and recognized them as mp3 files), but when it tried to play one of the mp3 files, it totally hung (had to eject the DVD-R).
If it could see the files, could the problem just be the type of mp3 file? My mp3 files had variable bit rate, so perhaps that's the problem. Does that seem likely? If so, maybe I should buy the unit to test out some other mp3 formats.
Anyone have this unit? Any thoughts?

AFAIK, the circuitry used to play back mp3s in DVD players is designed to read only from CD DISCS.
