  1. Hey All,

I am new to the Tuner/Capture/VCD world, but am not new to computers.
The easiest thing to do would be to tell you what I am looking for and let you guys (hopefully) help decide the best course of action. I am looking for a tuner/PVR card that will let me:
    1. Watch TV on computer while doing work (on/off)
    2. record tv shows off of the tuner card to my hard drive in a PVR type fashion
    3. Burn those onto CDR/CDRW for viewing on my Apex/Big Screen(no DVD burner...yet)
    4. Get the best sound quality for the xfer to cdr/cdrw
    5. In future, convert some VHS/8mm tapes to CDR/CDRW/DVD
I was trying to stay away form the video cards solutions. I was trying to stay under $150

    all help greatly appreciated...
    thx
    Mark

Have you checked the capture card comments yet? I'd start there. I have an wintv fm radio card ($60 ebay) that will perfom most of the things you mentioned. Though you may want to check out a wintv PVR-250 (also by hauppauge).

  3. Well...after looking around and reading comments and doing all the things we do before buying a gadget I have decided on the Leadtek WinFast TV2000XP. Might not be the best but for the comments, ratings, price and what I want...it looks like it should suffice...

Now I just need to get smart on the external programs/terminology I will now need to make this work to its full functionality.

    CBR
    VBR
    Audio Sync
    VCD
    SVCD
    Encoding
    Nero
    Virtual Dub
    Movie Factory
    etc,etc

    thx for the help
