  1. I downloaded to .avi files of a movie, i guess i use part one for disc 1 and part 2 for disc 2.

i used the guide for converting avi to mpeg with TMPGEnc, is stopped the converting to see what the quality of the mpeg was only to find that my mpeg that was 66meg played a black screen for about 5 mins.

My avi file was reported to be 352*240 14.985fps by virtual dub, so i didnt really know what setting to use in TMPGEnc either NTSC, NTSC Film or PAL.

    Any help would be appriciated.

Does the movie play normally? Can you open it up and view it in Media Player? If not, then your probably missing the necessary codec's to view the file (Probably DIVX)
Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...

  4. See the Divx to MPEG guides in the convert section or the Divx guide in the Play section for more info. Yes you probably need codecs like the Nimo pack
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

sounds like you need to switch the directshow reader priority under environmental settings in TMPG
of course...with the source framerate of 14.985 fps, you probably won't get good (S)VCD's no matter what you do
what are you askin' me for...
    I'm an idiot!

I am having the same problem. Does your file have this [*smr] infront of it. (Without the *) Cuz I think this is the problem. So has any one come across a converter that will convert these files? I have tried countless programs. The only one that will even read the file is Panasonic MPEG1 encoder. But It will only convert 1/2 the file to mpeg. Can any one offer any help?

you're going to have the same problem...load the file in virtualdub, and under file-->file properties, what is the framerate?
I don't remember for sure, but isn't smr 20 fps? maybe 15...either way, I don't think you're going to get an acceptable quality (S)VCD.
