  1. I have 2 XviD files w/AC3 audio and I want to know how I can extract the audio in a wav file. And how can I convert my XviD files to MPEG-2?

I tried to extract the audio via VDub and it worked, but the wav file had no sound once I played it
I've done an extensive search on these forums and I can't seem to get a correct answer...

Any links, tutorials, sites or any help, tips and info would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

  2. ok after searching like forever on the net for some info, I found this on some other website forum:

1> use virtualdub and input your .avi file.

2> select audio tab and choose "Direct Stream Copy"

3> go to File and select "File Information". Check file type.
.....if unknown then its .ac3 else it's .mp3.

4> Select "save as wav" in File and enter file name .wav

5> After extraction rename file based on 3> as .ac3 or .mp3.

6> Input file (.ac3 or .mp3) to Besweet and create uncompressed
.....wav file. You'll know because the file size will be much larger.

7> Input .wav file to Headac3he and create output file as .mp2
    .....(dual channel), 48Khz, audio bitrate,etc.,etc.,etc.

This may seem like alot of steps, but when I searched for answer,
this was the best. Note: Besweet does not support "dual channel"
and that's why I used Headac3he to convert to .mp2 instead.
now I have one question, what is the difference between .mp2 (dual channel) and a .wav file? (sorry I'm still a newbie) I mean is there that much of a difference?
And should I convert it to .mp2 instead of .wav?

I was under the impression that I could only and had to add a .wav file (under some circumstances) to TMPEnc when encoding?
And once I do this, would I encounter any problems when loading the XviD with the wav or mp2 in TMPEnc for the SVCD encoding to start?

    Any help please? Thanks!!!

    Not a problem.

Here's a method that has worked well for me every time:

Using Nandub (d/l from http://doom9.org), open the source .avi file.

    Then:
under Audio > Direct Stream Copy
    under File > Save WAV....

It will save the audio with a wav extension.

In Explorer right click and rename the extension to ac3 (Rename the resulting file extension from xxx.wav to xxx.ac3)

Then using Headac3he, again d/l from doom9.org, you can load the ac3 up, and either convert the AC3 file to Wav (to be used into TMPG for encoding) or straight to MP2 (and then after encoding your Video stream to SVCD you could multiplex it in TMPG and join the streams that way) To illustrate a straight encode from the wav source, see the Conversion area and the guide DivX to VCD) .

The resulting audio file can then be used as the audio source, with your original avi being used as the video source in TMPG

This should do it for oyu.

  4. thanks for the reply man,

can you explain to me what's the difference between both the .mp2 and .wav formats? Like why should I choose one over the other?

And one last thing man, if I decide to go with MP2 how do I go about multiplexing it in TMPGEnc and join the streams together?

    Thanks dude!
