  1. Hey there!

Im newbie ih this VCD thing! So I'll bother you guys a little!

I was trying to capture VHS tapes and then converting it to VCD's. I got it, but the results was not so good as I thought. I mean, my xvcd runs in my standalone dvd player (pionner dv-353), but with glitches, image got frozen for a moment (1 sec at each 3 mins, for example). I can watch it fine but itīs not so smoothy...
Is it normal? Do your captured movies plays just fine with no stops in your DVD players?
XVCD's that I made using as source DVD or even DIVX are almost perfect. No stops, no glitches...

I usually capture at 352x480 with picvideo MJPEG codec and audio PCM. Then I use KVCD templates with TMPGenc 2.58. I remux with bbmeg as MPEG-1 file and with default options.

Can dropped frames produce that? With that config I have almost no dropped frames (10~20 dropped frames by 100 mins of capture)

Am I doing something wrong? How to eliminate that evil freezing!?

Thank you for any help given!

  3. Hello skittelsen!

    Tanks for your advice!

I've read your article. Very interesting!

But concerning the resolution, I guess I canīt capture above 480x480 (under win xp, never triend in win 98). My phoebe tv master +fm allows me change the resolution but I got a high number of dropped frames (at 29.97 fps). And also I dont have a powerfull processor, itīs a cel366@550. So I do it at 352x480. I'll try later under win 98 (with another drivers) and see if it works.

Another interesting thing is that if I use default TMPG templates (with no demux and then remuxing with bbmpeg) the movie stops for about 30 secs (at each 2 mins) in my TV.

I use to burn with VCDEasy or Nero.

    Well, I also tried:
    Increase bitrate
    Increase VBV Size
Encode as Standard VCD or (X)VCD

    but nothing worked!

For that I asked if its normal that freezing! I guess I'm in the right way! Or not?

    Cheers!
