  1. Is it possible to burn a vcd onto dvd media? Thereby allowing you to put 3 complete movies (6 - 680 meg dat files) onto a 4.7 gig disc.

    Thanks

I believe 4.7GB is really 4.2-4.3 because of that whole MB or 1000000bytes thing. That's still over 7 hrs per disk.

I believe you will still have to re-encode the audio, but it should be possible.

  3. Let me clarify. I know the new Daewoo DVD player 4000 series lets you play mpg files off of a any disc individually. But I was wondering if you have a DVD burner on your computer and run Nero and select VCD. That if you have a DVD-r in the drive does nero let you utilize the 4.3 gigs of space for the VCD you are making. Is this possible?

    Thanks Again

  4. BTO,

interesting question. You should be able to burn in udf 1.5 and
have access to mpeg-1 in such a DVD player - in theory. I have
a feeling you would not be able to view the files/folders but be
able to press next to run through them one by one - rather
like a dvd disc with PBC off.

  5. You can certainly use VCD compliant mpeg-1 files when authoring DVD-video (audio re-sampled at 48khz) and so get loads of stuff on a DVD-r. As to whether the Daewoo player mentioned will play mpeg-1 files written as data to a DVd-r, I would say the best way to find out would be to try it!

  7. Thanks for your help everyone, especially Bugster. The Daewoo DVG-4000S reads files off a CD-R or CD-RW and puts the appropriate icons next to the file name ie. MP3 or VCD, or ? next to unknow file formats. This I have tested. I will know tomorrow if the data DVD-R is also file browsable and will post the results here. By the way, the Daewoo is a good choice for a bedroom DVD player as it is only $89.00 and plays every type of format and also has folder & file browsing.

    Thanks again,
    BTO
