  2. Well, in answer to your first question, I use TweakUI for this. You can get this from Microsoft's site here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp

This utility will give you the ability to select which drives you want autorun enabled with as well as alot of other tweaks that SHOULD have come with Windows.

As to what is causing you DVD-ROM not to read DVDs, I really don't know for sure, but I can give you a few common practice things to try.

How old is the drive? If it is more than a year old and especially if you smoke heavily around your computer I would suggest cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling every piece of software as well as drivers for system devices involved in the playing of DVDs such as your playing software, your motherboard chipset drivers, etc.?

If all else fails, and I mean ALL else, just take the drive out of your computer and give it a few whacks with the palm of your hand. I still can't believe how often this works

Sorry I can't be more specific about the nature of your problem, hope I've been helpful

    Prospero
