  1. Okay. My system is:
    800 Mhz P3
2 drives C for programs and D for capturing and processing of video
    ATI Radeon 7500
    in board sound

I first purchased a Dazzle USB capture thing and used their program to capture meg 1's. Encoded with TMPgenc and everything was just perfect. No jitters, no audio sync problems. Some small 'blockiness' in major movement scenes, but nothing to write home about.

I purchased the ATI AGP card 3 weeks ago and have had nothing but capture problems. Audo WAY out of sync. Video quality thats in the toilet.

I've used ULead Video Studio ver 5. (came in the box). I found it to be very limiting and it encoded the meg and avi files. I wanted the files processed with TMPgenc. Del *.*

I purchased Pinnacle Studio Ver 7. Getting better, but video and audio not in sync and the video was very jumpy. (Yes, my HD passed their read/write test).

Tried VirtualDub. Video looks great, providing I don't 'run' the file. Audio missing parts, dropping frams like crazy. My HD passed the read/write test that VirtualDub has.

When the capture program gives me the option, I use the Huffey codec for video and PCM for audio.

I have tried the uncompressed AVI route, but had no success.

I've read the guides, the how-to's and the forums. I've tried the 'adjustments' suggested in the forums with no joy.

Could someone please help me? I've tried to solve it my self.....

  2. Now that I think of it,it may be an IRQ problem(you saying that capturing in virtual dub gives choppy audio)
check to make sure your capture care is not sharing an irq with your audio
and that nothing else is sharing an irq with your audio card/integrated chipset audio if so switch slots to get the audio on it's own irq if you have a motherboard with a VIA chipset make sure you install the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers
You might want to try AVIIO
    http://www.nct.ch/multimedia/avi_io/
also do you know anything else about your hardware such as motherboard, chipset on the motherboard(some chipsets need tweaking for capture), RAM type
    DMA enabled on your harddrives?
what file system and operating system?example windows 98,Me,2000,XP
also you said you used the dazzle usb doesnt that already capture into mpeg1?(I dont know about this device)
be verbose with your responce it will help to narrow down the culprit
is it the ati radeon all in wonder 7500?
also what are your virtual memory settings.I always disable virtual memory when I capture or else I drop frames like crazy
also disable write behind cacheing on your hard drives and set up your computer as network server

  3. Thank you.

I've printed out your reply and will respond to it tonight.

I've done in my shoulder and have a couple hours drive to the nearest hospital....rural living at it's best.

  4. I've updated my profile and filled out the computer info area.

IRQs = Video is on 11 all by itself
Audio is on 09 but it shares the spot with a) ACPI compliant system and SmBus controller. And I can't seem to find a way to change the IRQ's.

    AGP controller's number (?) is 82815.

I turned off virtual memory and found no real difference on or off.
I disabled write behind and again, no difference.

However, I re-checked the abilities of the HD to do capture and discovered that the one I was using (D) didn't pass muster (but it had before) and C's test indicated it't R/W was at least 4x's D's.

    I did another capture with:
Source was satellite TV (composite). A golfer trying to get ball out of sandpit demonstration.
    Virtual Dub 1.4.1 something..
    to drive C
    Huffyuv 2.1.1...
PCM for audio (uncompressed?) and ultimately saved as .wav
    44.1 16 bit stereo
    704x480

the result of that was 'squirrely' video on the motion portions (but ZERO frame loss). The audio was not only sounded that it was missing pieces it also switched from l to r speaker and never on the 2 of them.

I encoded it with tmpgenc 2.57. Standard VCD settings with the motion sensor (?) set to High/slow.

Video looked good (could use some tweaking). The audio started about 1-2 seconds before video. It had background noise (like wind rushing past mike) and the 'missing pieces' showed up so it wasn't choppy with intermediate sound loss.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you
