    After encoding my DIVX AVI through DVD2VCD it saved the new, hopefully dvd compatible file as an AVI should i rename it to a DAT file?

    You made another AVI ?
    VCD/SVCD/DVD use Mpeg not AVI, renaming it wont help, you need to convert it to an Mpeg.
