  1. Is there a player which could play bin files.. which are images of VCDs?

  2. The CUE/BIN image is just that, a disc image.

If you mount the CUE/BIN image as a virtual CD with daemon-tools, you can then play the VCDs as if it were a real disc inserted in your cd drive (i.e., with a software DVD player like PowerDVD or WinDVD).

I know I'm getting off topic, vitualis, but just how do you do:

"If you mount the CUE/BIN image as a virtual CD with daemon-tools, you can then play the VCDs as if it were a real disc inserted in your cd drive (i.e., with a software DVD player like PowerDVD or WinDVD)."

I have done exactly this with daemon tolls and Power DVD, and when I press play, I get:
"A disk with an unsupported format in drive H:"

I get the same thing when I try to play the burned image in my PC with PowerDVD, but VCD plays fine on standalone player.

    Any advice appreciated.

  4. I've seen this error once before when I used Win98SE and an older version of daemon-tools but only once.

I haven't had any problems since... so I can't really offer any good explanations.

    Have you tried a reboot?
What version of proggies are you using?
How did you make your VCD/SVCD image?

    Regards.

    I'm running Win XP.
My Power DVD is 3.0 SE
I made the bin/cue files with VCDEasy v1.1.2
As I said, I can play the VCD in my standalone player, and in WMP if I open the .dat file.

    Thanks,

  6. The I would say that you should try updating you version of PowerDVD to 4.0, which is meant for XP anyway. It works fine for me, as does WinDVD. Since it plays fine in WMP, Windows is set up properly to play the disc, but Power DVD is not handling it properly.

  7. check to make sure that in the cue file it has the exact name of the bin file. if it is different then you may not even be using the bin file at all.

  8. In Linux mplayer can play .bin files without mounting (exact same as any video file) I have heard of people compiling the program on Winblows but have never personally tried.

the link to it is mplayerhq.hu if you want to find out how.

plus an added bonus I found out it can also play uncompressed rar's (made so sending over internet in about 15mb chunks) one time I accidently open one of the files over a svcd i think it was a .r11 and I saw the show come up 3 minutes of it at least) which is awesome for previewing downloads

Thanks all, especially Prospero. I think you are on the right track. There is a free patch (some patch- a 5.6 Meg file!!) at the PowerDVD site for XP users with v3.0. Problem is, I can't get it to run. I have submitted the problem to Cyberlink. I expect that this issue, once resolved, will solve my problem.
