  1. I need some advice guys. I have built a stand alone DivX player out of old pieces and parts: (FIC VA503+, K6-300, 128mg PC100 RAM, NVidia GeForce MX2, 16bit Sound Blaster,IR Remote, blah blah blah....). I have it hooked up to my receiver and 32" TV....works great. Anyway, as you can tell I need a new sound card. That's the only thing that sucks. I don't really want to spend big $$$, preferably under $75. I am also curious, does it make a difference if I get a card with RCA outputs on it or not? All wisdom will be most appreciated. TIA!

  2. no, RCA outs or 1/8" outs don't matter, it's the same signal.

but i think this is your answer-

i've had some problems getting the SPDIF digital out to work under win2k, but supposedly it can be done. it works great under win9x though. $9.50

if you want, also check out ebay for the better version, the Aureal Vortex2 SQ2500. that's the one i have in my better computer, very good sound quality, digital out works great in all OS's. i've seen them on ebay in the $20 range...

  3. What OS are you using in this box? I've got a celeron 366 mhz and that sounds like a good idea. But my box was a little jumpy playing DVD's but would Divx's be ok? Are there any hardware decoder cards for Divx?

    Thanks
    Mike

  4. No hardware decoders for divx. Too bad really...I'm sick of needing a Gigahertz system to just watch silly movies!

  5. Sorry for the double post. Can't delete it...weird.
Well Sigma Designs is supposedly coming out with a MPEG-4 chip. I'm sure that can be used for DivX if somebody tried hard enough. Any new information on that is greatly appreciated.
