  1. I've got a DVD movie, i've already watched it, but when i try to rip it there's a problem with the dvd files. So i decided to check the files via windows explorer, and surprisingly, all the VOB files were empty (i.e. size: 0 kB). But when i try playing it with WinDVD it works fine. Could this be a hardware problem?

When i try the properties of the whole DVD, it gives me the size as 6.89 GB which is supposedly the right size. But the individual files and folders have size 0 bytes.

    Can someone help plz.

All the playing was done on a computer DVD-ROM not stand-alone DVD player.

What brand DVD-ROM do you have? What version of Windows? What DVD are you trying to rip? How are you trying to rip it (what software).

Could be that you DVD-ROM or your driver has something funky going on that reports 0kb files (and prevents you from ripping). Could also be a corrupt TOC on the DVD that "fools" windows into thinking the files are 0kb.

  3. My dvd-rom is a Hitachi GD-2500 (i think) its a pretty old one, well the movie is Gone in 60 seconds (NTSC version, region 1).

I'm using WIN XP, and i've tried smart-ripper but it comes up as an error, i couldn;t even play the vob files seperately, the only way to watch the movie was to play it as a whole dvd.

This is the first time this has happened (the only dvd that does this so far), all the other dvds i've ripped have been just fine.
