  1. I downloaded lsx mpeg encoder to convert the avi files i downloaded into mpeg files so i could burn then onto cd, but when i try to convert them...an error message comes up stating that audio stream has unsupported format for compression type and that the file could be corrupted. Is there any way to fix the file so that they are not corrupted and i can convert them?

As I understand it LSX will only accept PCM as a sound format.

The AVI files you downloaded probably use MP3 or similar for the audio.

One way to get around this is to convert the sound to PCM then open it with LSX.
You can do this using VirtualDub,
    - open the original AVI in VirtualDub
    - then in the 'Video' options select 'Direct Stream Copy'.
    - in the 'Audio' options select 'Full Processing Mode', then select the 'Compression' option and make sure that '<No compression (PCM)>' is selected.
    - now select 'File -> Save as AVI' and save the file under a different name.

This new file should be accepted by LSX.

Alternatively you could try using TMPGEnc to convert the original file to mpg.
