  1. Hey People. I have 8mb video, what my PC came with, although I am getting sick of waiting 15 hours for a 700mb avi to convert to mpeg1. I found a video card, Radeon 32 MB SDR PCI Video , that IS compatible with my PC. Would this video card speed up the encoding process at all?

    Hey . . .

Without a pc profile loaded (hint, hint) it's hard to guess what the rest of your specs are, but the short answer is "no", it won't. Encoding is purely a function of (in order) CPU, motherboard data throughput (ie a 100mhz FSB speed is gunna suck compared to later speeds) and (to a limited extent) amount of RAM installed.

Whilst the new vid card may give the illusion of making the process faster (ie rendering images quicker and all that), it won't affect the actual time taken to encode/re-encode each frame of your film

    Regards,

    B.
