Hello,
I had this problem with a dvd called, "Drugstore Cowboy" and it is why I stopped making VCD's.
The voices of actors were a little too low and they sounded demonic.
I recently made a vcd from a dvd with no audio problems, however, with the movie, "tape" I now once again have this strange audio problem?
I used smartripper 2.41, dvd2avi 1.76, tmpgenc 2.58, and nero 5.5.9.9.
I am making an XVCD. My settinngs are: 29 frames, 2000kbits, audio 192, 16:9 ntsc, vcd (non-standard), highest quality very slow, 352x240, full screen.
I encoded the video and audio separately to .mpg with Tmpgenc 2.58,
Then multiplexed them together with mpeg tools, then cut it in half, and burned with nero.
I also encoded the audio at 128 to see if that would change anything and it was still low pitched sounding?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention that I encoded the audio from .wav to .mpg with mpeg tools after dvd2avi creates the .wav file.

hi Spanishfly,
I think this is caused by the sampling frequency. I had this problem before also when the audio was set to 48khz instead of 44.1khz. The pitch was lower and also out of synch too.

Thanks a lot Ren for the input.
You are right my frequency was set to 48000.
That must be it.
I am going to try it at 44100, hopefully it will work.
Thanks again,

Try and use a program other than tmpg to downsample the audio frequency. Tmpg is know to introduce a metallic echoey (is that a word?) sound to the file when it changes frequency. I personally use dbpoweramp, but there are many others that can be used... There are also ways to set up tmpg to use an external audio encoder by going to options - environmental settings - external tools.
