  1. I used to be able to play my ripped .vob files with the ATI file player.

    I had a computer crash, and re-installed everything. Afterward When I rip a dvd - the ati file player won't open the .vob files.

    i get an error box from RManager ... could not open file XXXX.vob

    I am using smart ripper - just like I did before, and installed the same file player I was using.

    Anyone have any suggestions? am I missing a codec? are my ripping options wrong (I don't think they are) anyone else have this problem?

    Thanks,

    yes,

    uninstall ALL the following in this order:
    * capture card drivers (???)
    * MMC software
    * graphics card driver

    Then, re-install them all again.
    Play an actual DVD file, so tha ATI's software dvd player can make
    or re-create certain post file setings or *.ini files or something like that.
    These settings are necessary for future DVD player the next time you
    pop in a DVD. In your earlier try, you may have overlooed this. Too
    late to try now, as you've already create these settings/files when you
    loaded up an stripped *.VOB file (ie, smartripper)

    Hope this works.

  3. Thanks, I'll give that a try.

    Any particular order to re-install?

    nirv117,

    the reverse:
    * graphics card driver
    * MMC software
    * capture card drivers (???)

  5. Well I uninstalled etc ... and now my DVD player works again ...

    But the file player still won't play .vob files.

    I guess I won't worry about it. I also noticed it won't play AC3 files either. i thought it used to do that too.

    Maybe I'll try removing everything again sometime ...
